The Ohlone Riders of the Back Country Horsemen and other equestrian organizations are sponsoring a drive to collect used but safe horse halters and lead ropes. These halters and lead ropes will be donated to park rangers throughout the greater bay area, who work in parks with equestrian facilities or equestrian usage. Currently we have the need for people to use our flyer from the website below and take an empty box to any place where equestrians migrate such as feed and tack stores, larger barns and boarding stables, western clothing stores and just about anywhere equestrians hang out. Stolen Saddles: Bayridge Farm located in Los Angeles was robbed on August 10th or 11th. It was an inside job due to the fact that the lock was not broken on the tackroom door. 4 saddles were taken; older Butet with stiching repairs on the flap, new Luc Childeric with some wear on the seat from a seat saver, Barnsby Skeleton with noticable seat wear and an older Crosby. He is 5 months old and living in about a 1 acre pasture that is fenced with 4' no-climb and hotwire tape. He has a 3 sided shelter and a large water trough. It worked for me! Also, if the horse is registered most registries will give you the current owner's info. Try Gymkhana associations, endurance groups, horse show associations and look in the phone book for trainers & private barns if you know the area in which the horse might have gone. The Ohlone Riders Backcountry Horsemen are helping coordinate a used halter and lead rope collection drive. These safe but used (faded, dirty, and/or well-loved) halters and lead ropes will be cleaned and then distributed to Park Rangers in Bay Area parks with equestrian trails. The purpose is two-fold: 1.) to provide every Park Ranger with a halter and lead rope to keep in their ranger truck, for use in assisting a horse or equestrian in trouble and 2.) to demonstrate a spirit of goodwill and cooperation between the Bay Area equestrian community and our local park system.
