God's
Foal
I'll lend you for a little
while
My grandest foal, He said,
For you to love while she's alive
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be one or twenty
years,
Or days or months, you see.
But, will you, till I take her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to
gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories
To bring solace in your grief.
I cannot promise she will
stay,
Since all from earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.
I've looked the wide world
over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
With trust I have selected you.
Now will you give her your
total love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come
To take her back again?
I know you'll give her
tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should I come and call
for her
Much sooner than you'd planned,
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And someday understand.

Stop
all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aero planes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the
public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton
gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever; I was
wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

| Rainbow
Bridge
Just this side of heaven
is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that
has been especially close to someone here, that
pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows
and hills for all of our special friends so they
can run and play together. There is plenty of
food, water and sunshine, and our friends are
warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had
been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made
whole and strong again, just as we remember them
in our dreams of days and times gone by. The
animals are happy and content, except for one
small thing; they each miss someone very special
to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play
together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright
eyes are intent. His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying
over the green grass, his legs carrying him
faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and
when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to
be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your
face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of
your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow
Bridge together....

Another Variation of the
Rainbow Bridge
By the edge of the woods, at the
foot of a hill,
Is a lush green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here between this world and
the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land they wait and they play,
Till the rainbow bridge they cross over one day,
No more do they suffer in pain or
sadness,
For here they are whole their lives filled with
gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass with
out even a care,
Until one day they stop to sniff the air,
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack.
For just an instant their eyes
have met,
Together again both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
Their time of parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they
were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then side by side they "cross-over"
together.

Don't Cry
for the horses, That life has set free.
A million White horses forever to be
Don't cry
for the horses, now in God's hands
As they dance and they prance to a heavenly band
There were
ours as a gift, but never to keep
As they close their eyes forever to sleep
Their
spirits unbound, on silver wings they fly
A million white horse, Against the blue sky
Look up
into heaven, You'll see them above
The horses we lost, they horses we loved
Manes and
tails flowing, they gallop through time They
were never yours, they were never mine
Don't cry
for the horses, they will be back someday When
our time has come, They will show us the way
On silver
wings they will lift us, to the warmth of the
sun
When our life is over and eternity has begun
We will
jump the sun and dance over the moon
A ballet of horses and riders on the winds to a
heavenly tune
Do you hear
that soft nicker close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses Love the ones that are
here
Don't cry
for the horses, lift up your sad eyes,
Can't you see them as they fly by?
A million
white horses free from hunger and pain,
Their spirits set free Until we ride again

| After You
Leave The
highlight of my day is when I see your car
drive up.
For a while, all this pain seems to subside.
Yes, it's still there, but because of you,
and the joy you make me feel, I don't mind
it so much.
It's so nice that you bring me wonderful
things. You bring me yummy treats. You bring
me scritches and pats. You bring me so much
love. It's no wonder I perk up. It's no
wonder I don't mind going for walks with
you.
I hate it when you leave, for then I am
alone with the pain. You don't see, after
you leave, I go stand by my water for hours,
not wanting to move, not wishing to eat the
little bits of my breakfast still left
behind. You don't see, after you leave, that
when I do start to move, it's harder than it
was yesterday.
After you leave, the joy I feel goes away,
too. Sometimes, I wonder if the other people
who visit me can see it. I will occasionally
perk up when one of them comes by, since,
you just never know if someone else will
offer me as much love as you do.
I know you know how good I feel when I am
with you, but do you know how bad I feel
after you leave?
Sometimes I wonder, when you leave, if I
could go with you. If, where you go, there
is as much love and kindness as you bring to
me, then I would like to leave, too. If
there is freedom from this constant pain, I
would like to leave, too.
I would like to leave now.
