Looking for info on an Egyptian Arab gelding I just bought. He is not registered and I would like to find info on his breeding so I can get him registered. He was bought from Greg Garcia in Half Moon Bay a year ago. He was used for mounted cowboy shooting and was, I believe, "reserved champion". He is 10 years old, a grey and his name is Sammy.Thank you! kovu1965@yahoo.com  San Francisco. 2/1

Hello everyone, I am a junior in high school and am vice president of the equestrian club we have started. Our school mascot is the mustang and one of our goals was to in some way sponsor a mustang. We don't want to own or keep a horse, but just be able to help out a needy mustang. We have funds but are not able to consistently put in money towards a horse. If someone knows of some way that our club would be able to "adopt" a mustang then please let me know. Thank you. tbgurl@hotmail.com  Clayton. 1/31

For those having a problem with the toxic weed Yellow Star Thistle, have had huge success with the herbicide "Transline" made by Dow AgroSciences. I sprayed the lst year May and June and had 0% star thistle in my pastures with no harm to pasture grass or to horses. The 2nd yr. I didn't spray and had about 10% return of the weed. I will spray again this year. This stuff works. I bought is at Horizon, expensive but a little goes a very long way. dj2bit@att.net  San Ramon. 1/28

Hey all! I'm from the UCSD equestrian team and wanted to put the word out that we're looking for some charitable people to donate money, tack, or whatever you've got to the team! We're desperately in need of tack and other horse care goodies, anything you'd like to do to help would be much appreciated! We're a non-profit organization so your donation is tax deductible. If you're interested in making a donation drop me a line and I'll forward it on to my team captains so they can take care of the details and the tax deduction receipt. Hope to hear from you! catch_the_ray@yahoo.com  San Diego. 1/28

I am a Farrier in the South Bay and I have had 2 horses that have been in stalls or paddocks bleed from the nose after shoeing. They have not been running around and were held by the owners. Ripped Off for a trail ride in Golden Gate Park or other locations including Briones, Point Arena and Novato? I answered an ad on Craigs List in December for trail riding with a business based in Petaluma. The owner required $75 from each rider in advance as a deposit, then stood us up on the day we were supposed to ride (December 13)! Our deposits have already been cashed and spent, and we still have not received a refund! Looks like I'm going to have to take this individual to small claims court. If you had a similar experience and would like to join me in my effort to get a refund, please let me know. eve@tropicali.com Pittsburg. 1/27

I have found out there will be an inspection in Walnut Creek in april for the American Warmblood Society. Unfortunately i do not have a trailer, and i don't see myself getting a set up anytime soon . Is anyone going to be passing through Vacaville and willing to pick up a hitchiker? My boy trailers very well, loads like a dream and is nice in quiet in a trailer. Lucky me!!! I would be willing to pay half the hauling and gas expenses or whatever, just to hitch a ride. 707 447 2309 thanks Dana luvmytrakehner@aol.com  vacaville. 1/27

Where can I find a catalog that specializes in custom halters, leads, blankets, ect. I had a catalog once a few years ago, but it has since long gone. I would like to be able to order a bunch of halter, but cannot find anywhere that does it with our colors (royal & yellow). I know SLT does it, but I would like a place that specializes and does nothing else. Thanks. mbhtc@yahoo.com  Aptos. 1/26

I am adopting a rescue mare that was dumped up in Clearlake about starved to death and in bad shape. We could use some help on transport. I can go as far North as Modesto to meet someone if they could pick her up in Clearlake and head south...or if someone was coming through on the way to LA we could certainly hitch a ride all the way here. I can pitch in for gas but am pretty horse poor lately. This is a spur of the moment situation (and she needs no move NOW) and I just spent a fortune having teeth done, a gelding on my project colt and big vet bills on all my kids this week. Any help will be appreciated! asiberians@earthlink.net  Fresno. 1/25

Skin Problem - Help - My horse has skin issues that get worse towards the end of summer and mid winter. His skin gets so sensitive he hates to be brushed or rubbed on his neck, shoulders, belly - he is ok on his back and butt. No hair loss, scabs or scales. I have tried special shampoo's - anti bacteria, t-gel etc. The vet thought maybe an allergy to sweat so I washed him after sweating - nope. We tried antihistamines, wheat oil, flax seeds and still he is getting worse - now he threatens to bite (he has not bitten me but bites at me - expresses his displeasure). I am wondering if it from the dirt or something and maybe a blanket would help him but I know all the reasons to NOT blanket - flatten his hair, can't regulate heat, staying in a wet blanket after the rain etc. any advise would be greatly appreciated. ktunheim@earthlink.net  Woodside. 1/24

Does your horse want to be a star? I'm a fourth year film student looking for a talented, beautiful, and preferably gentle horse to star in my (very short) thesis film. The shoot will take place in Santa Cruz at my home (30 acres, including orchards, fields, and forest to enjoy, but please note there are NO fences). I am an experienced horseperson, and you are more than welcome to stay on site and help coach your horse! All that's really required of the horse is to wander around a bit, to interact with an actor, and to let the actor ride bareback at a walk. The horse might also be invited into my living room (we have huge barn doors) if s/he's not too spooky. Please email me if you might be interested! (Sorry, there is no pay, but copy/credit/meals and treats will be provided. kateusmaximus@yahoo.com  Santa Cruz. 1/22

I live in the Bay area, and keen to have my sister from abroad come visit, and experience a little of America. She is in her late 30's and runs her own stable and riding school (of 15 years) in SA, teaching English and Centered riding. Her working experience is all detailed - breeding, stable management, training, teaching, health, working with Ryki students and well reputed in her town. Her dream is to ride all day and never see a fence. Looking for a way for her to see/experience and taste the American equestrian world for 1-3 months approx this year. She travels with her toddler child, but will have me to fall back on for help. Will deliver skilled equestrian workmanship in exchange for a real/sensible adventure and chance to experience equestrian America. This is a serious request, no freeloading/chancers! Presidio YMCA Needs To Partner With Equestrian Riding School This Summer....I am on an advisory committee to the Presidio YMCA (the "Y") Summer Specialty Camps and Youth Sports Programs (see  www.ymcasf.org/Presidio/camping.html#Summer_Day_Camp)..  I am a volunteer trying to seek referrals and information for Kristen Dambrowski the Camp Director so that we may find a new stable/equestrian school that can provide equestrian riding and care lessons this summer. The Y would contract and underwrite the expenses for the camp with the stable/school that can provide these services and staff. Kristen can provide greater detail as to what the Y is seeking in order to partner and provide the best Equestrian Specialty Camp. This Specialty Camp is well attended and often the first exposure many SF Youth have to riding, bay area trails and equestrian care. We would be remiss if we did not continue to offer this valuable and important camp to our summer day campers. Please contact Kristen or myself if you can refer any stable/equestrian stable/school manager that maybe able to assist us in providing a great Specialty Camp option for the children that may participate in this program. Kristen Dambrowski, Camp Director, 415.447.9692, kdambrowski@ymcasf.org. Thank you for considering our request. 1/19

We on the central coast need help . And I don't mean because of our recent and deadly earthquake. But our superintendent of the state parks  has ordered various local parks closed to horses. I don't' believe he has gone through what I though were necessary environmental impact studies to justify them, these signs just went up the last 5 days, and the local rangers in charge didn't even know about it! He had some ecologist do it!! If you know where to direct us, for help, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you. mrsswiss@webtv.net . 1/19

Are there other handicapped equestrians who have their own horses? I am very interested in forming a food purchasing cooperative that would also advocate animal feed and services discounts for low income, handicapped and therapy/service animal owners. My experience is that "owning" a therapy animal of whatever type is an activity which is of great physical and mental benefit, and I would like to aid others persons in the same position as myself. Please contact me with your ideas. I would hope eventually that a multi-feed company would be willing to issue coupons to service/therapy animal owners, and perhaps that is one end to which our efforts can be directed. I hope also that local feed vendors, including hay vendors, might be willing to discount for therapy/service horse owners as well as for therapeutic riding programs. http://pwp.value.net/penomee/penomee.html  penomee@value.net  Chico. 1/19

Stolen Hermes Saddle: Have you seen my 35-year-old flat close contact Hermes jumping saddle? It was 16 1/2 or 17 inches, light "hermes" brown, with a slight rip in the leather at the pommel, horse teeth marks at the bridge of the seat and a distinctive light=colored water mark in the seat area. Needed: Overnight Ride for Wedding Proposal. I have been looking for a special overnight ride to propose to my girlfriend. We just moved out here from Oklahoma and she really misses her horse. She is an experienced rider and I'd rather not go to one of the kiddie camps... I've looked up horseback riding in the bay area, but I haven't been impressed by the "stables" I've seen so far. RIDING PARTNERS: I have had notices at the local feed stores and in club newsletters. I helped instigate a “Connecting With Riding Partners” page on the local club’s website. I’ve had notices on BAEN. The local clubs just don’t have enough rides to justify horse ownership! Granted, the “bad apples” have spoiled the crop so the “worker bees” are burnt-out & runnin’ scared for the nasty words “insurance, liability, releases”. I used to ride NATRC. I also ride side-saddle and Western Pleasure. But, at this point in my life, I just want to safe-n-sane, sensibly enjoy the trails and riding companion(s). It has been harder than Hell to try as I might to find like-minded riding companions. I have responded to other notices, but alas I’m afraid a lot of people throw their notices (or responses) out as a spur of the moment thing, then forget that they did, then never check their emails and/or give the “fickle finger of non-response”. I am 5th generation native Santa Cruz and life-long horse person, so I knew riding in this area in The Goo’ Ol’ Days. In desperation, I would very much appreciate hearing from serious local pleasure trail riders!  mamiller@cruzio.com  Soquel. 1/14

The Draft Environmental Impact Report for the N Livermore Intensive Ag Program is available and the 45 day public review period is open. The public review period is Jan 8 to Feb 23. There should be a copy at the libraries. It would also be available from the County Planning Department, 224 W Winton Ave, Rm 111, Hayward, 510.670-5400. Oral comments may be made at a Public Hearing at the Planning Commission, Feb 2, 6pm at 224 W Winton Ave, Rm 160. Written comments go to Sandi Rivera, Assistant Planning Director, Alameda County Community Development Agency, 224 W Winton Ave, Rm 111, Hayward, 94544. One of the major amendments to East County Area Plan with Measure D included provisions for a density bonus/cultivated agriculture program in N Livermore, provided findings could be made as to availability of irrigation water, the economic viability of the program, and that "cultivation and irrigation will not cause significant harm to groundwater, soil, biota or other environmental qualities." The purpose of the report is to provide an analysis of potential physical impacts, as per CEQA. Additional work will be necessary to determine the economic viability of cultivated agriculture in N Livermore, and the adequacy of a safe and sustainable supply of water to support cultivated agriculture and other uses. 1/13

My daughter goes to school in San Diego. Because of his age, 22 at the time, she left her best friend, our quarter horse, at home with mom. After a couple of years away, she now needs to ride when she is at school! She has shown English and Western, and is a very accomplished rider. Does anyone have experience with a barn in the San Diego area where she could ride, learn cutting, be around horses? Original message: "I saw your ad in bayequest looking for used saddles.  Here's what I have:  A used Crosby corinthian close contact saddle, no knee rolls.  I can't tell what size it is, but I got it when I was 13 (and was shorter and smaller) and used it until the last few months (I'm 5ft 4inches, normal weight, 32 yrs old, so it's lasted a long time), and I am guessing its a 16 inch.  Besides use, there's nothing particularly wrong with it.  It's free to a needed home, along with a gel foam pad (black).  Reply if interested.  I'm in Sacramento." 1/11

NEED RETIREMENT BOARDING!! I have a 6 year old anglo-arab/QH named Hailey, who was diagnosed with severe arthritis and tibial bone spurs in her bag left leg, and had to be retired from riding. She is also hypothyroid and needs daily feeding of her supplements and low-carb grain. I dont have the heart to put her down, so I am seeking alternate boarding possibilities than where she is at now. Between the cost board and having substitute feeders if I am bogged down late at work, its getting to point of where I just cant afford it Ideally, I would like a place in the bay area region, or within a 100 miles of Palo Alto, because I will be continuing to provide all of her supplements and grain. She requires daily feeding, but it only takes literally about 10-15 minutes. She also cannot be at a place that feeds alfalfa hay, because she will get sick from it. If you have a retirement facility or are looking for a well mannered horse as a pasture mate, please contact me. She has excellent ground manners. I need something in the range of less than or equal to $150 a month if possible. Thank you very much. seamystiq1@yahoo.com  Palo Alto. 1/8

Papers? Does anyone have any idea how I would get papers for a Hannovarian/Thoroughbred mare I may be buying. The Canadian owner has no papers as he has both her mother and father and did all her breeding - he felt she would always just be a brood mare. Can I register her as an Oldenburg? Thanks! slurpees4ever@yahoo.com  Danville. 1/6

Please help me locate Amir-Deb, aka "Amy". 1/2 Arab 1/2 Qtr. bay mare, last known owner Christine Frank, Gilroy, CA. Amy was 16 years old in 1988. I have not seen or heard of Amy in 14 years. During my brief acquaintance with her, the feeding and brushing of her, there remain good memories. Her owner and I went our separate ways and Amy was lost track of. Even after all these years I have not forgotten Amy and still wonder what became of her. If she is still with us, she would be some 32 years old. It would be wonderful to see her one last time. If not, at least I could learn how she spent her last years. Please call 408-255-3113. Thanks. Saratoga. 1/6

Looking for my childhood horse. Her name is Creme Soda and is an all white appy/quarte(?) with two blue eyes. Last seen at Las Trampas Stables in San Ramon in the summer of 1990. I'm considering relocating from the Bay Area down to San Bernardino or Riverside area. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to look (either online or otherwise) for horse jobs, boarding etc. Is there a Bayequest equivalent for Southern California? Any info would be greatly appreciated. My family lives in Palm Springs, but they are not horse savvy and aren't sure where to look. Thank you! sunrider@surfnetusa.com  Santa Cruz. 1/6  Note to visitors: BAEN is re-launching its sister site Southern California Equestrian Network in early 2004.

HORSE STOLEN ON 1/2/04 - A woman in Nuevo, Ca. had her 21 yr old Quarter horse stallion stolen during the wee hours of the morning on Jan 2, 2004. Gail's is heart broken. She lost her dad in Aug. and now her horse is stolen. Gail was raised with this horse. The horse was an orphan & they raised him on a bottle. She refers to this horse as her "brother". She is desperate to find him. The fence was cut & the horse removed from rear of property led down the dirt road & into a trailer. That's all they know. He goes by the name Twister. He lives in Nuevo, CA. Here is a description of him. A 21 yr. old stallion, dark bay with dorsal stripe, 16 hands, stocky, big jowls. White star - snip - upper lip. Left hind - white on coronet. Right front - club foot. No other white markings on him. This horse has a tattoo on the inside of his upper lip and it may be faded by now, # 12584. Please contact the owner, Gail Parker: (909)928-2437 if you see this horse. 1/5
